This is the story of Gwen Forrester, a wealthy woman who loses everything after her older sister is murdered and her father goes bankrupt. In love with her late sister's husband, Gwen wishes she could help the investigation - until she realizes that someone out there wants her dead as well. Teaming up with an eccentric police detective with a shady past, Gwen travels to New York while apparently tracking down the most elusive and dangerous criminal in history.

President Bush figures as one of the minor characters in this story (in a romantic context, too). The story, however, is neither pro-President-Bush nor anti-President-Bush. He has only a slight bearing on the events in it. As a love interest, President Bush performs admirably; but less so as a romantic hero.
